Some of the health care reform changes in 2012 will affect how affordable health insurance in Santa Monica will be. There will be additional preventive services offered on all non- grand fathered plan. Here are more specific.
“Preventive Services at Additional Cost for Women in 2012
In August 2011, the list of preventive services that must be provided without cost sharing under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was expanded to include services such as “well-woman” visits, contraception, breastfeeding support, and domestic violence screening. All non-grandfathered health plans (IFP, mid/large group, and self-funded/ASO plans) are required to include these services without cost sharing for plan years beginning on or after August 1, 2012.
Medical Loss Ratio Calculations and Rebates
The medical loss ratio (MLR) mandate requires health carriers to spend at least 80 percent of their premiums on medical expenses for individuals and small groups, and at least 85 percent for large groups. Carriers must provide rebates to customers if this standard is not met. As the insurance carriers implement the MLR requirements this year we will hear more details , there might be even rebate checks distributed in the last quarters of 2012.
